Ponte Principe Amedeo Savoia Aosta, Rome

Ponte Principe Amedeo Savoia Aosta, Rome

Ponte Principe Amedeo Savoia Aosta is a landmark of the central historical part of Rome, also known as the Ponte Principe, or the Ponte of PASA – abbreviated from the full name. It is located on the Tiber River and connects the three historical districts of the city – Ponte, Trastevere and Borgo.

History of Ponte Principe Amedeo

The bridge received its name in honor of the Italian prince from the Savoy dynasty of Amadeus of Savoy, the Duke of Aosta. During the Second World War, he was the vice-king of the Italian colonies in Africa. Construction of the bridge lasted for almost 3 years and included several long breaks in the work. A group of architects of the company Stoelker worked on the project, commissioned by the municipality of Rome. The first cars passed through the bridge in 1942.

The composition of Ponte Principe Amedeo is three brick arches that are framed by white marble. Between the two arches there are two rectangular windows decorated with rounded arches. Two pillars – the legs of the bridge, remotely remind us of ships – divide the river Tiber into three equal-sized streams.

How to get there

The convenient location of the Ponte Principe Amedeo Savoia Aosta in the central part of Rome will make it easy to get here for every traveler. It has public transport routes: buses No. 40, 46, 62, 64, 280 and 916.
