Ossuary Garibaldino Mausoleum, Rome

Ossuary Garibaldino Mausoleum, Rome

The Ossuary Garibaldino Mausoleum in Rome is located on the hill of Janiculum, on Garibaldi Street. The tomb was designed by the architect Giovanni Jacobucci and after two years of painstaking work it was gloriously opened in 1941. From April to July 1849 there was a courageous confrontation under the command of Giuseppe Garibaldi in these places, in defense of the Roman Republic. In the Ossuary Garibaldino Mausoleum there are the remains of all those who gave their lives for Rome between 1849 and 1870. On its walls there are more than 1600 names. On the back facade of the mausoleum there is a sarcophagus with remains of the author of the anthem of Italy, the 22-year-old poet Goffredo Mameli, who died in 1849.
