Museum of Rome in Trastevere, Rome

Museum of Rome in Trastevere, Rome

The Museum of Rome in Trastevere is located in the Trastevere quarter, in the building of the former Carmelite monastery, founded in 1610. The exposition of the museum is mainly devoted to the period of the weakening of the Papal authorities in the late 18th – mid 19th centuries. In 1875 the building of the old monastery became an urban possession. Later, until 1970, there has been a children's sanatorium. Further, the building was restored and rebuilt for the "Museum of Folklore and Roman Poets", as didactic section of the National Roman Museum. Exhibits which were previously exhibited in the Palazzo Braschi were collected in it. After a long break, the museum was again open to visitors, but it was already called in a different way – the Museum of Rome in Trastevere.
