Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Rome

Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Rome

The Palace of Exhibitions in Rome is considered to be the largest exhibition hall located in the very heart of the Eternal City. This is a three-story building with over 10000 square meters of space where various exhibitions are carried out on a regular basis. This palace can be easily called the center of modern cultural life in Rome. Every art enthusiast can find something to their liking. Without a doubt, it will be a pleasant discovery for frugal people: with only one ticket you will be able to attend tons of exhibitions organized at the palace.

History of the palace

The architect named Pio Piacentini was the one who created the neoclassical design for the building which was opened in 1883. Originally it was meant for different kinds of exhibitions, and subsequently, it was used for this exact purpose. The palace became a cultural space for exhibitions and significant world events. At the time of fascist Italy, the building was a bit redesigned and modernized.

The palace served as an office and an exhibition place for Rome Quadriennale. In 2007 reconstruction works were performed on the building, improvements were made, and cultural life inside it began bustling even more enthusiastically. Aside from Rome Quadriennale, many other exhibitions and events took place here:

  • 1883. Fine arts exhibition.
  • 1932. An exhibition dedicated to Garibaldi.
  • 1932–1934. Exhibition of the Fascist Revolution which had more than 4 million visitors.
  • 1936. The first poster and graphics exhibition.

  • 1998. An exhibition dedicated to Lucio Fontana.
  • 2007. An exhibition dedicated to Mark Rothko and Stanley Kubrick.
  • 2008. An exhibition dedicated to the Etruscan civilization.
  • 2009. Exhibitions dedicated to Charles Darwin, Alexander Calder.
