Monument to Quintino Sella, Rome
Monument to Quintino Sella in Rome is placed near the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Italy. The statue was created by the artist Ettore Ferrari and installed in 1893. Quintino Sella was an Italian political activist and a talented economist that lived during the Risorgimento. The monument to Quintino Sella consists of a full-size bronze statue and a long granite plinth. There is also a bronze sculpture of Minerva, the goddess of wisdom, at the artwork’s bottom. Near her feet, you can see a baby with a big book in his hands that says “Finance.”
Fun facts
When Quintino Sella passed away in 1884, he was buried in the famous cemetery called Sacro Monte di Oropa, in his homeland, in the Biella area. To honor the founder of mountaineering in Italy a shelter up on the ridge of the Monte Rosa.
Another thing this famous Italian liked was geology. In 1867 Sella founded a mining school in Agordo to train specialists who could extract ore and process metals. He also created a museum that puts more 5 thousand pieces of metals, rocks, and fossils on display.
