Carlo Bilotti Museum, Rome
Carlo Bilotti Museum of the famous Italian-American collector of the 20th century is located in a historic building in the Villa Borghese gardens. This beautiful place is known for its fountains and garden lake called Water Games. When Bilotti passed his collection to the city, the old orangery, where the living space was located, was reconstructed for exhibition halls.
For the most part, the works of Giorgio de Chirico are situated here. A total of 18 Surrealistic paintings, created in the period from 1920 to 1970. The portrait of philanthropist Bilotti, created by the American master Larry Rivers, can also be seen in the museum. Painting Tina and Lisa Bilotti the work of Andy Warhol, the famous master of pop art, is the popular among the visitors. Temporary exhibitions are held in several halls.
In addition, at the Villa Borghese you can visit the house-museum of the Italian sculptor, composer and artist Pietro Canonica and the famous Borghese Gallery – one of the most breathtaking art galleries in Rome.
How to get there
The museum of Carlo Bilotti is located in the Borghese park, near the pond. Villa Borghese can be reached by climbing the Spanish Steps, as well as from the Piazza del Popolo. On the subway you need to go on line A, the nearest station is Spagna, on the Piazza di Spagna.
The museum is open every day, except Monday. Opening hours from June to September are: from 13:00 to 19:00, weekends – from 10:00 to 19:00. From October to May: from 10:00 to 16:00, on weekends – from 10:00 to 19:00. Free admission.
