Monument to Enzo Ferrari, Modena

Monument to Enzo Ferrari, Modena

Monument to Enzo Ferrari (Monumento ad Enzo Ferrari) in Modena is set in honor of the world-famous racing driver and founder of the famous car brand. And yes, he was born and lived most of his life in this city. So Modena has a right to be proud of its famous countryman.

Historical personality

Probably, almost every inhabitant of the planet heard the name of Ferrari, relating it to the brand of cars. Enzo was born in 1898, and already in 1919 he made his debut in motorsports. After 10 years, in 1929, he founded a Ferrari firm with the name Scuderia Ferrari. Initially, it was engaged only in racing and developing racing cars. But later it began production of prestigious and very expensive sports cars. The businessman lived a long life and died in 1988. Most of the company's shares went to the concern FIAT, and only a tenth went to his illegitimate son, Piero.

Sculptural composition

In 1998, Modena celebrated the centenary of the birth of the famous designer. And it was his heir who presented the city with a beautiful sculptural composition Drake. The project of the monument was performed by the sculptor from Modena, Marino Quartieri, who was respected by Enzo himself. He had previously worked on his family burial vault. The monument was opened on February 18, 1998, on the birthday of the Ferrari, and installed on Largo Garibaldi, near the intersection with Viale Ciro Menotti. But in 2005 it was transferred to a park, named after the race driver. A copy of the monument was presented to the city of Maranello in 1998, where Enzo Ferrari died.

The sculptural composition is executed rather roughly, but at the same time it is beautiful. It is a bronze column with a height of 5 and a diameter of 2 meters on a granite pedestal. A series of bas-reliefs from bronze, depicting the momentous moments in the life of Ferrari spirally lead to its top. Among the figures you can see Enzo himself, his sons Piero and Dino, the grandson of Enzino, and the car racers Tazio Nuvolari and Sergio Pininfarina. At the top of the column there is a sculpture of an entrepreneur, the figure of a horse, as the emblem of his company, and the great wings of victory.

How to get there

The monument is located at the entrance to the park Enzo Ferrari, at the intersection of Via Emilia Ovest, 286-288 and Viale Italia. Not far from it there is the Municipal Museum of Art. Opposite the park there is a stop Emilia Ovest Bivio Ruffini, which can be reached by bus routes 4, 5, 9, 762.
