Bust of Alessandro Borella, Turin
Bust of Alessandro Borella is one of the three monuments located in Turin’s public garden. It might look quite simple and plain, but it also has many other significant tourist attractions surrounding him. This bust was created by Silvestro Simonetta in 1900 and placed in a garden of an ancient fortress. It was moved, however, to a different location – a small square in city’s center. It can be found there today.
The monument was dedicated to journalist Alessandro Borella (1815–1898). Alessandro was the son of a cotton factory owner. He successfully received a degree in a medical field, but later decided to become a journalist. In 1848 he had collaborated to create a newspaper called «La Gazzetta del Popolo» which had existed for 135. This simple bronze bust is currently located opposite to a building where Alessandro’s newspaper office used to be.
