Fountain at Piazza Pietro D'illiria, Rome

Fountain at Piazza Pietro D'illiria, Rome

The fountain, which is called a mask, was built in 1936 on the Piazza Pietro D'illiria. Its author was Antonio Munoz. From the outside, the mask is very similar to the famous Mouth of Truth. The fountain consists of two parts, each of which was used repeatedly in the creation of the fountain. The monumental granite mask and thermal bath were parts of another fountain that Giacomo della Porta built in 1593. After the dismantling in 1816, an old mask was installed into the niche of the wall at the entrance to the Orange Garden.

The Basilica of Santa Sabina is situated next to the park.
