Panini Motor Museum, Modena

Panini Motor Museum, Modena

Panini Motor Museum (Collezione Umberto Panini) on the outskirts of Modena is famous for the largest collection of old cars of the brand Maserati. This remarkable private collection belongs to a member of the family, known for the production of various collection products. The visitor will be greeted by the simplicity of territory, and with it the wealth and gloss of the private collection.

History of the museum

The foundation of Alfieri Maserati car repair workshop in Bologna can be considered to be the reference point. In 1926, the brothers bought out a small factory and created their first car. Since then, the company has been actively developing. And on October 27, 1965, a museum was opened with a collection of exclusive brand cars that operated on the premises of the company. In May 1993, FIAT bought all shares of the company from the group De Tommaso. In December 1994 a new museum was opened in the main office of the plant.

In July 1996, the group De Tommaso bought back the entire car collection, part of it (15 engines) was placed in the premises of the company Maserati in Modena. Another part, 19 cars, was to be sold at the London auction. The authorities of Modena wanted to keep the whole collection in their hands and sounded the alarm. In this situation, the entrepreneur Umberto Panini intervened, buying out all the exhibits. Since then, the collection is in his hands, and it was replenished with several more cars.

Exposition of the museum

A passionate lover of technology, Umberto Panini preserved and multiplied the original collection of Maserati. Now it includes 23 cars of very high value. Many of them were released in limited series in several copies, and are really unique. The following models are among the most valuable and significant exhibits:

  • Tipo 420/M/58 Eldorado 1958,
  • Tipo 61 Birdcage Drogo in 1961.

The collection is supplemented by interesting cars of other brands, among them Cadillac Limousine 355 1930, and Mercedes 300Sl Ali di Gabbiano.
