Museo della Mente, Rome
Museo della Mente is one of the most unusual museums in Rome. It is located within the walls of the closed psychiatric hospital of Santa Maria della Pietà. The museum holds exhibits that tell the story of this clinic, as well as information about the treatment methods and some patients. The museum was opened in 2000, nowadays it works under the guidance of a team of video artists from the studio "Azzurro".
Exhibits of the Museum Laboratory of the Mind
The museum's collection is a journey through the history of a psychiatric institution, a variety of techniques for combating mental illness, as well as methods for promoting health. Here you will see:
- personal belongings of employees and visitors;
- cars;
- instruments;
- photos;
- portraits;
- interviews and stuff.
Also, special attention should be paid to the testimony of 50 people who acquaint visitors with the the institution’s history.
The museum is divided into two sections: an exposition and a laboratory, in the walls of which research is conducted now.
How to get there
The Museum Laboratory of the Mind is located in the sixth hall of the Hospital of Santa Maria della Pietà, on the Piazza Maria della Pieta.

- Metro – stop "Monte Mario".
Opening hours:
- 09:00 to 17:00 (Monday to Friday).
- On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays the museum does not function.
