Museum of Natural Sciences "Enrico Caffi", Bergamo
In Bergamo there is the Museum of Natural Sciences "Enrico Caffi" (Museo di scienze naturali "Enrico Caffi"). Its area is 1800 m². And the number of exhibits exceeds a million! Fossils of mammoths, dinosaurs, plants, insects are stored here. Most of it was found in Bergamo, but there are finds from different corners of the plane in the museum collections. The Museum of Natural Sciences "Enrico Caffi" was opened in 1918, although the exposition was created much earlier – in 1871. It is located next to the Archaeological Museum.
Collections of the museum
The Museum of Natural Sciences "Enrico Caffi" is divided into several departments. They are dedicated to:
- Zoology – this exhibition presents fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals.
- Paleontology – several exhibition halls are devoted to fossils. Attention is focused on the remains found near Bergamo. Here you can see even the skeleton of Allosaurus in full growth.
- Ethnography – in the southern wing of the building there is an exhibition on the cultural objects of the American and African continents.
- Geology – you can see a huge collection of stones and minerals here, which are common on the territory of Bergamo.
A prominent feature of the museum is the opportunity to touch some of the exhibits, study them under a microscope and even conduct small experiments.
How to get there
You can get to the Museum of Natural Sciences "Enrico Caffi" in Bergamo on the bus 1A, to the Colle Aperto/Università stop. You can also take the cable car to Citta Alta.
Opening hours:
- From April to September, the museum is open for visits from 9:00 to 12:00 and from 14:30 to 18:00. On Saturdays and public holidays – from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 14:30 to 18:30.
- From October to March, the Museum of Natural Sciences is open from 9:00 to 12:30 and from 14:30 to 17:30. On Saturdays and public holidays – from 10:00 to 12:30 and from 14:30 to 17:30.
Mondays, January 1 and December 25 are days-off at the museum on.
Entrance fee: the ticket costs 3 euros and is valid for the Museum of Archeology in Bergamo. Admission is free for children under 18. Data of January 2018.
