Podesta Palace, Rimini

The Podesta Palace (Palazzo del Podesta) is a prime example of the medieval Gothic architecture in Rimini. This strict-looking building located on the main square is considered to be a genuine city monument that has survived to this day.

History of Palazzo del Podesta

This palace was meant to be a residence for the Rimini's leader and was built in 1334. In the 16th century, it underwent significant modifications, the last reconstruction works were carried out from 1912 till 1922. They were performed according to the project created by Gaspare Rastrelli. On the first level of this massive building, there are 3 huge Gothic windows. A beam used to be attached to the middle one where criminals were hung back in time. Palace’s top level also has 5 small windows, its roof is decorated with beautiful ornamental spikes.

Currently, the palace houses an art gallery. Various exhibitions and cultural events are held here on a regular basis.

How to get

The palace is located in the very heart of Rimini, on Piazza Cavour, 22. City administration, the Arengo Palace as well as the statue of Paul V can be found near it. Bus stop Piazza Malatesta is situated 2 minutes away from the venue, you can catch buses 14 and 18 there.

Admission: you can find out about the ticket price by contacting the staff. However, everyone is free to enter the palace itself.
