Statue of Vittorio Emanuele II in Palermo – a monument in honor of the King of the Sardinian Kingdom, as well as the first king of the united Italy. The statue is located on Giulio Cesare Square, near the historic center of Palermo.

The history of the Statue of Vittorio Emanuele II

The author of the monument's composition was the famous Italian sculptor Benedetto Civiletti. The monument consists of a large marble pedestal and equestrian statue of the king, made of bronze. The grand opening of the monument took place in 1886 in the presence of the leadership of Palermo and all of Sicily.

On both sides of the long pedestal are two bas-reliefs: on the left side are the events of 1871, when the royal procession, led by King Vittorio Emanuele II, entered the Quirinale Palace.

The composition of the bas-relief belongs to the sculptor Stefano De Lizi. On the bas-relief on the right side of the statue are Vittorio Emanuele and Marshal Radetsky, signing a truce on March 24, 1849.

The monument to Vittorio Emanuele II is located in the central green area of Giulio Cesare Square, near Palermo Central Station. You can get here by public transport, which follows about the route:
