Obelisk Thirteen Victims, Palermo

The Obelisk Thirteen Victims (Obelisco alle Tredici Vittime) is a monument that is located in the central part of Palermo, on the Square of thirteen victims (Piazza Tredici Vittime). The monument was erected in memory of the victims of the Gancian uprising.
History of the Obelisk Thirteen Victims
The history of the monument begins in April 1860. Thirteen followers of the Gancia Church were arrested by the Bourbon army and shot on the site of a modern square.
The memorial obelisk was erected in 1883, 23 years after the tragic events. The author of the composition was the sculptor Salvatore Valenti. The monument is represented by a high stone stela, which is erected on a pedestal. The top of the obelisk is decorated with an iron star. Particular attention deserves modeling, which complements the composition of the memorable mark. An inscription is inscribed on the pedestal and informs tourists and everyone to whom the monument is dedicated.
