Monument to Vincenzo Bellini, Naples
The monument to Vincenzo Bellini in Naples is located in the centre of the same name square in the historic part of the city. It is the monument in memory of the famous Italian composer Vincenzo Bellini. He was the author of many operas. The operas, which gave him the worldwide popularity, were "Adelson e Salvini" (Adelson and Salvini), "Il Pirata" (The Pirate), "I Capuleti e i Montecchi" (The Capulets and the Montagues), "Beatrice di Tenda," "Norma," "La sonnambula" (The Sleepwalker) and "I puritani" (The Puritans).
The future composer received his musical education at the Naples Conservatory of Music "Conservatorio di San Sebastiano." The music of the composer hears the spirit of the struggle of the Italian people against foreign invaders. His music is filled with longing for the motherland and dreams of its liberation.
The monument to Vincenzo Bellini was erected in 1886. The author of the monument is the famous Italian master – Alfonso Balzico. The statue is mounted on a high pedestal, with several niches carved on the sides. Previously, they contained sculptures of the main characters in the works of the composer. The monument is 6 meters' high, made of marble.
