Historical Museum of the Carabinieri, Rome
The Historical Museum of the Carabinieri in Rome is located on Piazza del Risorgimento, just a few steps from the Vatican. The museum has collected documents, photographs, paintings, weapons, uniforms and banners of the Carabinieri troops since its foundation in 1814 to the present day. It tells about the wars and campaigns in which carabineers took part. Police troops were founded by the King of Sardinia, Victor Emmanuel I. The unit's name came from the type of weapons used by the police – the carbines.
