Santa Trinita Church, Florence
Santa Trinita Church is situated in Florence, among the bright showcases of expensive boutiques. It was founded at the end of the 11th century by monks of Vallumbrosan order. The founder of this order was the nobleman from Florence, Giovanni Gualberto. During its existence, the temple has been rebuilt several times. The first and smaller building in the Romanesque style was erected outside the walls of the city. In 1175 the temple was located within Florence. In the second half of the 13th century, Santa Trinita was rebuilt, but already in the Gothic style.
A modern view of the temple was in the 90th of the 16 century. The architect Buontalenti worked on it – he redesigned the façade in the style of Mannerism.
The decoration of Santa Trinita Church is the Sassetta chapel with frescoes by the Florentine artist Domenico Ghirlandaio. People can observe the former views of Florence. Also the chapel of Bartolini Salimbeni is here, Lorenzo Monaco worked on the painting.
How to get there
The church is located on the square with the same name, near the Ponte Santa Trinita across the Arno River. Opposite of the temple there is the museum of the master of footwear manufacturing Salvatore Ferragamo.
