Piana delle Orme Historical Museum, Latina

Piana delle Orme Historical Museum, Latina

Historical Museum “Piana delle Orme” is a theme park, located on the farm of the same name, in the province of Latina. Museum exhibits highlight the history of 20th century and offer a glimpse of local inhabitants’ traditions and culture.

Museum’s collections

The museum arose from the private collection of Mariano De Pasquale, and it still keeps enriching with newest pieces. It houses about 50000 objects – these include toys, household items as well as World War II vehicles and agricultural machinery, for instance, tractors that were once used for recultivation.

Since museum collection is divided into several themed exhibitions, in “Piana delle Orme” there are two guided tours which have differently plotted routes:

  1. The first tour focuses on the province history and the development of Italian agricultural industry in general.
  2. The second one introduces visitors to various military equipment during the World War II. Last time the collection was updated with vehicle M4 Sherman – its counterparts are still used by U. S. forces. In 1943 during military actions, the vessel with M4 Sherman on board was sunk, but after long and costly reconstruction works the tank joined museum’s collection.

Filmmakers use the exhibits, including tanks and other military machines, for their war movies.
