Museum Historical Room of Cavalry, Reggio Emilia

Museum Historical Room of Cavalry (Museo Sala Storica dell'Arma di Cavalleria) in Reggio Emilia immerses the visitor in the evolution of cavalry development, dating back to ancient times. This is a very interesting, but little known place. There are many reconstructions, various weapons and uniforms. The museum exists mainly due to donations and the work of volunteers.
History and exposition of the museum
The idea of creating the museum dates back to 1935, when the section of the ANAC, a cavalry organization, was created in Reggio Emilia. Having undergone a number of changes, in 1994 the organization began a tedious work on revival. Then the museum core was created. Initially, the collection was located at the headquarters of the Piazza Scapinelli. In 2008, the municipality bought an old building near the church of St. Peter. After the restoration, the museum was moved to a new location.
The permanent exposition of the museum includes uniforms, weapons, reconstructions, flags and pennants, banners, posters, paintings, models of soldiers, photographs, memorabilia and documents. All the samples testify to the evolution of the army cavalry from the historical lancers and to the first motorized units. Among the most valuable exhibits:
- Coats of arms of 30 regiments of cavalry of Savoy.
- Deactivated firearms: pistols, rifles, and even a grenade launcher.
- Plastic reconstruction of the authorship of Giuseppe Dallari Brusta: the siege of the city of Alesia by the legionaries of Gaius Julius Caesar, as well as the siege of Turin in 1706.
