Zoo d'Abruzzo, Rocca San Giovanni
Zoo d'Abruzzo in Rocca San Giovanni commune is situated not far from the coastline of the Adriatic Sea. However it is a bit different from usual zoos – it is a small, humble but quite peculiar. It is highly recommended to visit this place with children as they will definitely get an unforgettable experience.
Animals in the zoo
Many common animals (including domestic ones), as well as quite rare members of the animal kingdom, live here and visitors can watch them up close at arm’s length.
24 mammal species, 15 bird species, and eight reptilian species. Asian elephant, white rhinoceros, and giraffe along with a recently arrived family of Madagascar lemurs are the highlights of the zoo. Quite interesting and rare are hybrids, such as liger and zebroid.
Key feature of the zoo
Modern zoos are slowly moving beyond the stereotypes, where people just gawk at exhausted animals in cages. Zoo d`Abruzzo is a striking example in this regard. Apart from typical tours, which became routine to many people, the place offers a great number of educational programs for adults and kids of different ages.
If you still believe that learning is boring since school then this is the place that will break this stereotype. Be ready to feed elephant, giraffe, white rhinoceros and to enjoy performances with Dalmatians and horses, training with brown fur seals and rides on ponies. And because of that, the zoo earns the right to be called wildlife park. Discovering fauna with the help of programs, such as “Zoo in one hand,” “Treasure hunt” and “Following animal prints” can be an entertaining experience for children. An opportunity to be so close to animals leaves a pleasant impression as well as makes the zoo stand out.
Also, it would be a great idea to hold a birthday celebration for children at this place. For this occasions, zoo administration offers some bonuses.
