Museum of Ceramics Alfonso Tafuri, Salerno

The museum holds a private collection of ceramics, founded in 1987 by the passionate collector Alfonso Tafuri. While restoring the cellars of the building made out of cobbled stone, old brick and ceramic tiles, he decided to found a museum of Neapolitan ceramics.
In the museum there is a rich collection of hand-painted ceramic tiles from the 18th and 19th centuries; ceramics, that adorned the facades of buildings throughout the Neapolitan province. The exhibition displays dishes and household goods of manual work, as well as older artifacts dating back to the 13th century. Plates and prayer panels of the 19th century are presented separately, as well as ceramics from the period 1920-1947 created by artists such as Riccardo Doelker, Guido Gambone, Irene Kowaliska, Giovannino Carraro.
