Postal and Telegraphic Museum of Central Europe, Trieste

Postal and Telegraphic Museum of Central Europe was built in 1995 and only in 1997, it was opened to the public. It has been a part of the Museum of History and Art of Trieste since 2001 and can be found in the historical Palazzo delle Poste on the ground floor. This palace used to house telegraph post office of the Habsburg Empire once. The building appears to be perfectly preserved today.

Exhibitions

The museum is divided into several halls. The central one walks visitors through the history of the postal service. There is a reconstruction of the old 18th-century post office in another room. Various old documents, letters dating back to the Austro-Hungarian Empire existed and even later years, telegraph equipment, postal cartography, old maps, objects related to philately as well as military mail can be found among the exhibits. While observing them you can also literally touch the history. Moreover, by the end of the tour, every visitor will have an opportunity to create their own unique postcard.

How to get

Postal and Telegraphic Museum of Central Europe is located in Trieste, on Piazza Vittorio Veneto, 1. You can reach this place by taking buses № 5, 17, 24, 28, 30.

Opening hours: the museum welcomes its visitors from 09:00 till 13:00 (Monday-Saturday); it is also open from 15:00 till 18:00 on Thursdays. You will not be able to visit this place on January 1, April 25, May 1, August 15, December 25 and Easter.

Admission: free.
