Waterfall Cascate delle Stroppia is located deep in the Alps, near the Italian border with France. It is not well-known, primarily because of the difficult route to it. But those few lucky ones who come and seeit, will be able to say that they have won a worthy prize for a long journey.
After all, this waterfall is the highest in Italy, and one of the highest in the whole of Europe! Its height is 500 meters. It rushes down from the glaciers of the Vallonaso di Stroppia plateau with a stormy stream, and divides into many streams flowing into the Maira River. The lower point of the waterfall is located at an altitude of 1686 meters above sea level. Nearby there is the campsite Rifugio Campo Base and several hiking trails start from it. They are designed in such a way that you can fully enjoy all the beauties of the surrounding mountains.
How to get there
The waterfall is located 4 kilometers north of the village of Chiappera, in the Acceglio commune, 150 km from Turin. You can get here with a transfer. From the Porta Nuova train station in Turin, take the train to Cuneo. Continue on the bus № 78 to Acceglio. In the central town of the commune you can take a mountain taxi or a bicycle for rent.
