History of the fountain of Neptune
The fountain of Neptune on Piazza del Popolo is one of the most monumental fountains of the Eternal City. It is located in the Western part of the square. Its construction was completed in 1823. It was the final stage of the newly reconstructed aqueduct – Acqua Vergine Nuovo. The composition of the fountain is the work of the famous Italian architect Giovanni Ceccarini.
The main thing in the composition of the fountain is the lord of the seas and oceans – Neptune, he is armed with a trident. The king of the seas is accompanied by two newts, they sit at the feet of the ruler. Both sides of the fountain are framed by statues – symbols of the seasons. They were created in the neoclassical architectural style. The final element of the composition is a large bowl, located in the lower part of the fountain.

The fountain of Neptune is located in the central part of the Eternal City, on the Piazza del Popolo. Although the square itself is pedestrian and traffic is prohibited here, but you can reach the nearest streets by public transport:
